What do you recommend...

I started my 8th year as a teacher yesterday, with students starting next week.  I can't believe it's already been 8 years!!  The only thing that I would liked to have changed is that my college would have let me specialize in Math & Reading.  But alas, it was either Math & Science or English & Reading, and well, I'm not the best writer, so I went with my strength, Math & Science.

This however, didn't keep me from reading on my own and talking to my students about books.  I mean since there are very few seventh graders who LOVE math, I really like having something they enjoy to talk about.  Plus the look of shock on their face when the realize a MATH teacher LOVES to READ is priceless!

I LOVE reading YA, though some of the books that are on the top of my list aren't quite right for the masses at my grade level, while there are those that can handle the more mature topics, I'd prefer for their parents to make that call.

With that being said, I'd LOVE to hear from YOU!

What are your favorite younger YA or middle grades book or ones you'd recommend for Junior High/ Intermediate students?

  1. Of the top of my head Shimmer and Radiance by Alyson Noel come to mind. They are middle grade books and as they get older they can read the Evermore series.

  2. The Beautiful Dead series? I have the first two but haven't read them.
They seem a little young for me (I'm 16) but I'll read them soon I've heard they are good.

  3. Maryann - I have read both of those books and they are wonderful!! I think you will still enjoy them as the main characters are 16/17.
