My Review:
I was very excited when a friend loaned me her ARC of Cinder! I love fairy tales and I was anxious to see how this would compare to the various Cinderella tales out there. Cinder is the perfect mesh of sci-fi and fairy tale. It reminds me of Buck Rogers (Iko reminds me of the little robot in Buck Rogers), Star Wars, and Cinderella all wrapped up in a very different and wonderful tale.
Cinder is a cyborg who can’t remember anything before she was eleven. She is the most sought out mechanic in New Beijing who lives with her Step-mother and two step sisters. It’s through her work that she meets Prince Kai (a very likeable Prince who I found it quite easy to root for) and works extra hard to hide the fact that she is a cyborg from him. After a tragic event, Cinder finds herself “volunteered” to be a test subject to find a cure for a deadly plague that threatens everyone. It is in the research lab where Cinder’s story really starts to take shape and makes her rethink all she ever knew about herself and the world around her. I particularly enjoyed how we not only learned about Cinder, but got a fairly good glimpse at the challenges Prince Kai had ahead of him and how his decisions could affect Cinder. Finding out about supporting characters helps make fun for me to read and Marissa did a wonderful job not only developing Cinder, but also the supporting characters.
While there are pieces of the original Cinderella in Cinder (a ball, stepmother, two step sisters, and a prince) the unique setting and introduction of the Lunar Queen not to mention the fact that Cinder is cyborg make this a truly original story. If you enjoy stories that have a sci-fi feel or are a sucker for fairy tales like me, then you will LOVE Cinder. I would highly recommend this for your young readers or readers that are young at heart.

I really enjoyed Cinder. I thought it was so original! I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did, but everyone was raving about. Glad that you enjoyed too.
