Review:
A picture is worth a 1,000 words and this cover is worth more, with one great story behind it! Imagine not being really excited about going to prom, but agreeing to go with your best friend (Ian Clark...who just happens to be cute and knows how to make her smile) because he promised it would be fun. Of course that was before her mom helped pick out her dress with shoes dyed to match (there are some things that need to stay in the 80's but made the story even better). While some flash back stories confuse me, this one was pure entertainment! The story starts with Justina jumping out of a moving car in her prom dress and not really remembering why. After a rough start, she finally starts telling the clerk at 7-eleven how she wound up there, in her prom dress, bruised, stained, and a new tattoo. Her prom night was far from typical, but it makes one heck of a story!
Justina is a great character who tends to get in her own way, but has a few new and old friends that help her find her way out of the crazy mess that Prom turned into. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud or had a big cheesy grin on my face as the events of the night were revealed. Ditched is a love story that has one of the most entertaining paths to a happy ending.
There are some elements to Justina that I can relate to, especially the assuming the worst before you know all the details. I was totally guilty of that in high school. I adored how many of the chapters start out pointing to a stain as she recalls just how that stain was acquired. If you love contemporary novels that will make you laugh and love the characters at the same time then Ditched is the book for you!

Katelyn - you'll love it. I read it during our SSR time and would just start laughing...I'm pretty sure my students thought I was nuts.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really cute and I TOTALLY remember getting my shoes dyed to match my prom dress :)
