Review ~ Scarlet

Scarlet
by: AC Gaughen
Publisher: Walker & Company
Release Date: February 14, 2012

Summary (from GoodReads):
Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance.
Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in. It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

My Review:  5 of 5 Stars

Pre-Order it or go but it NOW, which ever best fits the time you read this review.  As one who has always loved Robin Hood stories, I was super excited to read this one the second I read what it was about.  Plus, how could you not LOVE that cover with the striking contrast in colors.
Scarlet is a very unique twist on the tale of Robin Hood.  I can think of a million things that I'd love to tell you about this book, but I don't want to ruin the sense of finding them out through reading the story, because I think that is half the fun.  The original writing style used to tell Scarlet's story fits perfectly with the time period and I felt like I was back in old England during the crusades, not that I know what that would really be like, but I felt like I was there.  I could feel every pain that Scarlet felt and understood how she struggled with some choices.  There was a time when I was like "wait, I thought...." but then I kept reading with the HUGE SMILE that grew across my face when certain parts of the story were reveled was awesome.
If you are looking for a uniquely written story with original old English dialect or just love Robin Hood stories this is the book for you.  Readers of all ages and abilities will enjoy the story of Scarlet and how she fits in with Robin's band.  Scarlet has everything: intrigue, suspense, action, and a little romance (but not enough to turn guys off of this book).  Add Scarlet to your GoodReads list and don't forget to pick up a copy on Tuesday.
