Born at Midnight

Released: March 29, 2011

Summary:

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.
Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.
Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

Review:
I’ve had Born at Midnight on my shelf for a little bit and after exploring C.C. Hunter’s website and reading the short story she wrote as a prequel for the series (it’s free on Amazon), I was HOOKED and HAD to read it.  I have found my next paranormal series/ obsession.  C.C. has created characters that are real and their internal dialog is too funny at times.
Imagine feeling like you never quite fit in.  Then, imagine that within the span of a few months your boyfriend dumps you, your grandmother dies and your parents are getting divorced, welcome to Kylie’s life.  Not only is she having a bit of bad luck, she gets caught at the wrong place at the wrong time and winds up being sent to what she thinks is a camp for “dysfunctional” kids.  Soon she finds out, things aren’t what they seem, and no one knows what Kylie is.

Kylie’s quest is to figure out how to let her guard down and find out where she fits in: Witch, Werewolf, Fairy, Vampire, Shape shifter or something else.   Through making new friends, seeing someone from her past she wasn’t sure she wanted to meet again, and trying to save a Shadow Falls, Kylie learns a little more about herself.  While change can be scary, sometimes it can also be exciting and liberating.  This is the first book in the series and I’m so glad that I already have books 2 & 3!  C.C. Hunter has done a great job creating characters that the reader can connect to and a setting that is after my own heart, the Texas Hill Country!  If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend taking a trip to what I think is like a little piece of heaven on Earth.

If you are looking for your next paranormal book, look no farther, Born at Midnight should be your next pick!

My rating: 5 Stars!

  5. I think what makes Born at Midnight so special is the variety of paranormals at Shadow Falls. Especially since most don't do well with others so you get all these hilarious fight scenes. Also what I loved is all the mystery in the book. We seriously have no clue what Kylie is and that is not from lack of guessing. Also something strange is happening at camp and wow, C.C. Hunter just keeps you constantly on your toes.
