Authors are my Rock Stars!

I am SUPER excited to host one of my favorite AUTHOR ROCKSTARS, Jordan Dane!!

A Day in the Life of a Rock Star Author – Jordan Dane Unplugged

Life on the fictional highway has no speed limit. My hair is blown back 24/7. Most days I look like this.

From the moment I open my eyes in the morning, I’m never alone. My adoring entourage awaits and they follow me wherever I go. I can’t make a move without them. They never complain. They live to serve and are unflinchingly loyal. What more can any rock star ask?

An author may have a real world to contend with like everyone else, but we can retreat into our fictional realm whenever we feel the urgent need to create interesting people to hang out with or wish to live life on the edge of danger, or eat the best food without gaining weight.

Who needs to take vacation when I can escape into my own head—a colorful and fanciful place to call home? For anyone who doesn’t believe an author’s life is truly special, I have put together this very real video to share the best parts of how I live the life of a rock star author. Don’t be jealous. It’s just how things are.

Harlequin Teen has been generous with the book giveaway for this blog post. Sarah will tell you the deets, but we have something special for the AUTHORS ARE ROCK STARS tour stop. You ready?

In honor of my upcoming YA series with Harlequin Teen – THE HUNTED – I will immortalize one lucky winner’s name in a book. Book #1 INDIGO AWAKENING is set for release Dec 18, 2012, but book #2 CRYSTAL STORM is coming in 2013 with a cast of psychic kids being secretly hunted by a fanatical church in LA. YOU could be one of those hunted kids in book #2. For a chance to win, post a comment with the name you’d like me to use as well as the psychic power you think would make me pick you. Convince me YOU are the right choice for my book. Sarah will tell you more.

(DISCLAIMER: A winner’s name will be picked, but I reserve the right not to make the final decision on the psychic power until I see what works best for my story.)

WOW!  Thanks Jordan for a candid look into your life as a ROCKSTAR.  Now for the awesome giveaway, I mean who doesn't want to be idolized in a book??  Ok, it's really simple, you use the Rafflecopter below to enter AND don't forget to leave a comment with your name & psychic power.
A HUGE thanks to Harlequin for donating, not 1 but 2 of Jordan Dane's already released YA books, which means there will be TWO book winners (the winner will have their choice of either:
In The Arms of Stone Angels or On A Dark Wing).

  1. I think the coolest power to have would be something similar to Peter on Heroes or Rogue in X-Men, able to borrow or mimic the abilities of others around me.

    1. If you were evil, what psychic power would you have, Marty?

  2. Name: Becky B.
My psychic power would be a mix of retrocogniton and psychometry. It would be great to get glimpses of past events and know more about them and perhaps seeing where things I buy have really been. :)

    1. Also to completely answer the question, I should be picked hopefully because you like my name/power combo, or you know just because it would really make my day/year. :)

    2. Bonus points for the hippo hat.

  3. I love this stop on tour. So awesome! The Day in the Life was such a fantastic idea! It's great getting a chance to see your author unplugged! :)

And the giveaway is amazing! Of course I will have to stop back and leave a comment with my superpower once I think about what that would be... I will be back!

Thank you so much for being a part of this tour! I love this post, the pics, the vid... everything! You both are rockstars!

    1. Thanks to you and Two Chicks for pulling this great virtual tour together, Rach. Just what the summer needed. People should check out the other stops too. AMAZING!

And of course, Sarah, is an author's BFF. <3

    2. You're so welcome! You are such an amazing author and so generous to be giving away a character in a book! :)

And yes Sarah is! It was so nice to "meet" her and her blog for this tour! I'll definitely be coming back again.

Still thinking on that psychic power. I'd always wanted telekinesis but I need to think that kind of power on a superpower scale. Will be back!

  4. What an amazing post!!! I LOVED it!!! Thank you so much for having me start my day with a laugh - what better way to start could there possibly be?! :D

Well, as for the super power, I would LOVE to be able to control the Elements. Wouldn't it be sweet to be able to control a whole ocean or whirl up a storm? Call up a wall of fire to defend yourself from enemies? I think that would be totally wicked!!! :D

  5. Stevie (Girl name) and the power would be the ability to know everything about someone just by touching something of theirs. Why should I be picked well I have to find some way to be a star right.

  6. My name would be Lili and I'd love to have the ability to touch something and immediately know everything about the owner of said object. I feel like that is insanely awesome!

  7. What a fun post! I loved the video and that contest is just so awesome.

And a book about superpowers? Yes, please. I definitely be reading those.

So happy to have you on board for this tour, Sarah!

    1. Sarah is a real gem, Patricia. Thanks for putting this whole thing together with Fiktshun's Rachel. You guys really topped off my summer and fueled it with gas.

Think psychic powers and come back to play and enter. I can see a character with duality, since you are TWO CHICKS.

  8. You guys are AWESOME. Definitely an inspiration. My psychic kids can be good or very bad. They are the next evolution. Mankind 2.0.

If people only use a fraction of their brain power, what is lurking in the shadows of a future generation?

    Bwah haaa HAAAA!

My psychic power would be to control other people's thoughts and actions - I think that's the ultimate power that can be used for good or evil. It's up to the person with the power to use it ethically.

I should be picked because I love Jordan Dane's books:)

    Thanks so much:)

  10. My physic power would to be able to freeze time and everyone around me so I'm the only "conscious" person (if that makes sense...) so then when my alarm goes off in the morning, I could freeze time and sleep in and not be late :). My name would be....how about... Isabeau. Yeah, I like that name! Why should I be picked? Besides my infinite love of Jordan Dane (that sounds creepy. I apologize.), I think that my physic power would be very helpful in escaping fights and whatnot. And sleeping in, of course.

    1. I am all over the sleep in potential. I could use that too. Ha!

  11. I'd be called Kat, and have the power to detect when other psychics are around, and what their powers are

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hey Carrie/Kat--Intriguing. What would you do with that power--if you could detect them? Would you hunt them for your own evil purposes or avoid them to save your own bacon? Would you sell their location and name to the highest bidder...like on Ebay?

  12. I've been following the blog tour since it started and am so grateful for all the hard work that Fiktshun, Two Chicks, all the other bloggers and authors are putting into this! It's such an awesome idea :D
What a great post and an amazing opportunity for fans! I'd be soo honoured to see my name, Caila, in a novel!
As far as choosing a psychic gift/talent, I would like to see one that's both a gift AND a curse and see which way the character decides to go with it and how it would fit into the story in general. The decisions and consequences that they would have to face as they struggle with what they believe is right and wrong and the choices that they make regarding those beliefs.
Perhaps they would have the ability to alter a persons' memory. The chance to be able to take the most painful thing someone has ever had to live through, and change the outcome of that event. To ease the grief, pain, remorse, regret, etc. of someone they care for. It's very hard to see someone you love or care deeply for in anguish, especially if you're presented with an opportunity to ease their suffering.
However, those emotions and lessons are fundamental to the human experience. Does anyone really have the right to deny someone that, no matter how much they're hurting at the moment?

That may be a little too complex for what you're looking for, I apologise if it is. It was the first thing that came to mind. I think it would be very interesting to see how someone- especially a young someone who's still trying to decide how to make their mark on the world- would choose to use (or abuse) a gift of that nature.

Thanks again to the hosts and participants for this opportunity and creating such a wicked blog tour!

  13. Wow, Caila. In book #1, Lucas has an ability with memory. There is a violation of privacy if someone can read too much. I can't say more about what will carry over into book 2, but I love the way you think about powers being double-edged swords. With power comes tesponsibility & consequences.

Are you a writer or have you ever considered becoming one? I think you'd me AMAZING. Thanks for your thought provoking comment...and for following this great tour.

    1. I can't wait to read Indigo Awakening and see where you take this amazing new series!
I love the idea of psychic gifts and other fantasy/paranormal elements and though I, personally, would love to fly (hehe!) - I like to read about gifts/choices/experiences/etc. that have the ability to be very pleasureable and/or positive but also damaging if not given the proper care or thought.

I ADORE your work and you have just given me the best compliment I think I will ever receive!! Thank you soo much!! I've actually been giving some serious thought to writing, so I honestly cannot express what you just said meant to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you. :D

Greatly looking forward to your new series and seeing where you take us all.

  14. Oops, got a little too caught up in imagining a psychic gift and forgot to answer the 2nd question (sorry!). I should win because not only am I a HUGE fan of Jordan Dane (definitely fangirled when I saw that you would be a part of this tour) but reading is not only my #1 hobby, it's also my main passion in life. Plus, I would be soo grateful :D
Good luck to everyone and thanks again!

  15. My name would be Jenelle (okay, totally named after- couldn't resist! :P) And my power would be the ability to predict, well, love. Just by seeing a person, I can know whether his/her true love is near her, far away but will come soon, or that the person is already with is his true soulmate. Or that the person doesn't have any, and he'll end up forever alone. :P (I guess, in a tackier way of saying it, I'll be a love psychic. ;) )

And I should be picked because if I do get picked, I'll find your true love for free. :) HA!

But all kidding aside, this truly would be an amazing opportunity- I mean, you don't get the chance to be immortalized in a book everyday. Plus, I love almost all HarlequinTEEN books, so it'll be pretty cool to become a character in one of their books. :D

  16. Nice, Jen. Interesting psychic power & love the name. Thanks for entering. Good luck!

  17. My name would be Eileen ~Lee~ My psychic power would be to be able to absorb other people's power to myself when it's near me, and use it :)
And why should I be in your book? Because I have the best power, lol.
I don't have a strong reason, but I'll be glad to be in your book. I haven't read your work yet, but sounds amazing. I'm so interested of all this psychic powers! Thanks for this post! You rock!

  18. Wow! This an amazing giveaway!

My name would be Cynthia :P
and a power... that's harder uhm...
Mind Control... I'd be the bad kid who likes to control everyone lol

  19. Love the cover for your book. It sounds really intriguing. I would want my name to be Aelita with the power of body possession. I think it would be awesome to inhabit someone's else body and make them do something that they wouldn't usually do. I think I could go either way good or bad, but I would rather being doing something good. Like when someone is about to shot me, I would like to take over that person's body and make him shot up to the sky or something.

Thanks for an awesome giveaway! Can't wait for December!

  21. Okay, I'm back to try and enter this giveaway for the immortalized character. Hmmm...

Character name would be Shay. Psychic power... while I love the telekinesis or psychokinesis idea, I'll go with something tricky like astral projection. :) I think it would be awesome and totally sucky to have that power. (You can see things that are happening but you can't actually do anything about it.)

Why should I be picked? Oh good grief, I have no clue. I love everyone else's ideas way better than mine. And their names.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Rachel/Fiktshun--I was hoping you'd chime in.

I love the name Shay. I first read it in a friend's book - Brooke Taylor's UNDONE. Great character. In her earlier drafts, we laughed about making him an Alien from outer space who tells people he's Amish. I still think she needs to write that story.

Would you ever stral project to places you shouldn't go? Hmmmmmm. Now what would those be?

    Good luck.

    1. Oh yay, me too! It can be great for a boy or girl though I love it for a boy. :) And an Amish Alien that is LOL funny! :)

I'd always planned on chiming in, just needed to wrestle with that decision. I do so love those telekinetic powers but they don't always translate to interesting stuff in books. Much better in film I'd think. But astral projection could be interesting...

And yes, of course I'd astral project everywhere I shouldn't go! I am not that good of a person. :) I'd be like the fly on the wall! Movie premieres, I'd hover over editors desks at HarlequinTeen to get super early peeks at books I'm dying to read.

And I may just visit Alex Skarsgard.... :)

    2. Dean Koontz, one of my favorite authors, wrote a book called A BAD PLACE about a boy who could teleport himself ANYWHERE to kill people. That book had me looking under my hotel bed and in closets on that business trip. I had to quit reading him and did for years, but his writing lured me back with his Odd Thomas series and so many others. Love him. Thanks, Rachel!

  23. I'm enjoying all the comments about your powers! Thanks for stopping by and good luck!

  24. My name would be Maddie, and I would like my power to be the either be the ability to sense exactly where I am location wise and to know directions to anywhere. Like I have a map in my head, so now matter where I am I can't get lost. Or, the ability to sense any nearby life forms. So for example, I would have the ability to know if someone else was in the same vicinity as me. This is a really cool contest! Thanks!

    1. I could totally use that "never lost" ability. And being able to scroll or devine where someone is would be cool too. Good luck!

  25. This is the hardest question I've ever had to answer! I feel like my answer will never be good enough to be a superhero.

I guess if I was going to be a superhero my name would be Kitto and my psychic would be to mimic others abilities or copy them. Because, get this, I kind of thought this through; Kitto is similar to the word Ditto which was also a pokemon I used to love that could copy other pokemon! Haha wow LAME.

    1. Ha! An anime pokemon mimic. Ditto Kitto. Very cute idea. Not lame at all. Good luck!
