Trailer Thursday ~ Insurgent

I can't even begin to express how excited I am for Insurgent to come out!  I DEVOURED Divergent in one night/day after picking it up because the cover looked cool and I liked the summary.  Of course I wasn't big into blogging yet so I hadn't heard all the buzz about it, but have been working hard getting students at my school and fellow teachers to read it.  The Verdict so far: THEY LOVE IT!

This week I'm anxiously waiting (with the rest of the Divergent fans) for INSURGENT! I devoured Divergent one weekend last May and have been anxiously waiting to see what happens next.  I'm working on building anticipation for Insurgent with my students as I have been getting them to finally pick up Divergent.

Have you ever read a book that you loved so much you recommened to EVERYONE?  And because you talked about it so often, you were sure you had written the review for it?  Well, this describes how I feel about my review of Divergent.  So without further ado, my review of Divergent.

My Rating: 5 Stars

I'm not going to lie, the cover of this book totally drew me to it and I had been hearing great buzz about it before it came out.  I actually read this book back in May and can't believe I forgot to write the review.  I DEVOURED this book in one weekend, I couldn't put it down.  I had to know what happened next and just getting to the end of a chapter wasn't good enough!


For me, Divergent was the perfect mix of action, intrigue, love and heartache.  I found the setting for this dystopian novel very intriguing and even imagined what faction I would belong to if I lived in this world.  Watching Beatrice grow into "Tris" as she adjusts to her decision to leave the faction where her family is was inspiring.  Beatrice knew that if she chose to leave the faction where her family is, she would risk not seeing them again.  Little did she know, there was a family history that made her choice an expected one.  I'll admit that when she took the first Dauntless test, I felt her adrenaline rush as if I had been the one to jump.  Tris went through a lot to make Dauntless, but not without the held of Four.  Four seems like a jerk, but he has his reasons and eventually lets down his walls to Tris.


Tris has to endure not only training, but attempts on her life by others who are new to Dauntless.  My heart broke for what her "friend" did to her and then it broke again with the final decision he chose as a result.  Being a dystopian novel, there has to be a rebellion.  Like real life, not everything turns out as you may want it to, though there is some resolve and even more shocking were the secrets that come out.  This is the first series book that I've read that had somewhat of an ending.  What I mean by that is that if this had been a stand alone book I would have wanted more, but would have been okay with the ending.  And what an ending!!  Talk about a ticking time bomb...I can't wait for INSURGENT to see how long before that time bomb explodes!

I would highly recommend DIVERGENT to anyone (boy or girl).
