Review: The Mapmaker and the Ghost

New Final cover                                    ARC Cover
Release Date: April 24, 2012  (my son's birthday too)
Summary:
Goldenrod Moram loves nothing better than a good quest. Intrepid, curious, and full of a well-honed sense of adventure, she decides to start her own exploring team fashioned after her idols, the explorers Lewis and Clark, and to map the forest right behind her home. This task is complicated, however, by a series of unique events—a chance encounter with a mysterious old lady has her searching for a legendary blue rose. Another encounter lands her in the middle of a ragtag gang of brilliant troublemakers. And when she stumbles upon none other than the ghost of Meriwether Lewis himself, Goldenrod knows this will be anything but an ordinary summer . . . or an ordinary quest. Debut author Sarvenaz Tash combines an edge-of-your-seat adventure, a uniquely clever voice, and an unforgettable cast of characters to prove that sometimes the best adventures of all are waiting right in your own backyard.
My Review:
5 stars
Where do I begin?  I was lucky enough to win a signed ARC of The Mapmaker and the Ghost from the author and have had it sitting on the shelf in my room for a while because I wanted to wait until closer to the release day to read it.  I LOVED the summary and the cover that was on the ARC and after I learned they changed the cover then I made sure to keep my ARC in a safe place.  My three yr old thinks it fun to look at my books, so I put this one up high.

I would highly recommend this book to ANYONE of ANY AGE if you have a sense of adventure in you or even if you used to as a kid.  The Mapmaker and the Ghost will not only pull you into the mystery but it will ignite the inner explorer in you as well!  It is a wonderful middle grades level book that I can't wait to share with my students.  As I read the story of Goldenrod's adventure I found myself grinning as I remembered times my brother and I would have our own adventures camping growing up.  There are too many quirky and fun characters to discuss without giving something away, but I'm quite certain that most who read this lively story will find someone they connect with.

I know this is a debut novel and a stand alone, but I can't wait to read more from Sarvenaz Tash as her story telling pulls you in and makes you feel like you are apart of the story.

Add The Mapmaker and the Ghost to your Goodreads list.
