When Kylie Galen entered Shadow Falls Camp, she left her old life behind forever and discovered a world more magical than she ever imagined. A place where you’re two best friends can be a witch and a vampire…and where love doesn’t happen the way you’d expect.
When Kylie’s most powerful enemy returns to destroy her once and for all, there’s only one way to stop him—to step into her full powers and make a stunning transformation that will amaze everyone around her.  But her journey won’t be complete until she makes one final choice…which guy to love.  Should she choose to the werewolf who broke her heart but will give anything to win her back, or the half-fae who ran from their attraction before they had a chance?  Everything she’s learned at Shadow Falls has been preparing her for this moment—when her fate will be revealed and her heart claimed forever.

Trailer Thursday ~ Whispers at Moonrise

This week I'm featuring the book trailer for Whispers at Moonrise, the fourth book in C.C. Hunter's Shadow Falls series.  I have devoured this series over the past few months and if you love paranormal YA then this is a must read series.

A breathtaking new installment of the bestselling Shadow Falls series for young adults by rising star C. C. Hunter!
At a camp filled with vampires, werewolves, and fairies, Kylie Galen has always struggled to figure out what she is. Now she finally knows the truth—but she's left with more questions than answers. She doesn’t have a clue what her heritage means or how to harness her newfound powers. All she knows is that she needs to sort out her feelings for Derek, the sexy half-Fae who just confessed his love, and Lucas, her werewolf boyfriend who seems more committed to his pack than to their relationship. All the while, Kylie's dealing with a group of underground rogues who want her dead and a mysterious grandfather who makes it clear he doesn’t trust the FRU . . . or Shadow Falls. Soon Kylie will have to choose: Will she stay with the new family she’s formed at Shadow Falls, or will she leave with her grandfather and embrace her destiny?

Review & Giveaway ~ Taken at Dusk

Taken at Dusk
Author:  C.C. Hunter
Released:  April 10, 2012
Publisher:  St. Martin's Press
Pages:  380

Summary from Goodreads:
Step into Shadow Falls, a camp for teens with supernatural powers.  Here friendship thrives, love takes you by surprise, and our hearts possess the greatest magic of all. Kylie Galen wants the truth so badly she can taste it. The truth about who her real family is, the truth about which boy she’s meant to be with—and the truth about what her emerging powers mean.  But she’s about to discover that some secrets can change your life forever…and not always for the better. Just when she and Lucas are finally getting close, she learns that his pack has forbidden them from being together.  Was it a mistake to pick him over Derek? And it’s not just romance troubling Kylie. An amnesia-stricken ghost is haunting her, delivering the frightful warning, someone lives and someone dies. As Kylie races to unravel the mystery and protect those she loves, she finally unlocks the truth about her supernatural identity, which is far different—and more astonishing—than she ever imagined.

 Review:
I have completely fallen for the characters of Shadow Falls and can't get enough of them.  Taken at Dusk picks up shortly after Awake at Dawn ends and once again finds Kylie in some tough situations.  Kylie is still trying to figure out what she is and through one of the ghosts that haunts her, she finds some answers and more questions.  I don't want to give away anything, but she does know more at the end of the book, though knowing also creates more questions.  My heart did break a few times and I still can't decide who I like better for her, Derek or Lucas.  Part of me wants her to be with Lucas because he's like her since they were kids, but I think Derek could truly like her for what she is.  As with Born at Midnight and Awake at Dawn, Taken at Dusk is full of action and romance, and not just for Kylie.  One of the things I have enjoyed about this series is how C.C. explores the emotions and lives of secondary characters.  We continue to see how the friendship between Kylie, Della, and Miranda grows and of course there is the "tension" between Holiday and Burnett.  For me, Taken at Dawn is a 5 star book and I can't wait to see what happens next in Whispers at Moonrise.

And now for a giveaway!  I just happen to have an extra SIGNED copy of Taken at Dusk up for grabs.  You must be 16 or older and a US resident, just fill out the form below.  Good Luck!

Review: Awake at Dawn

Awake at Dawn
by: C.C. Hunter
Released: October 11, 2011
St. Martin's Press
pages: 383
Step into the world of Shadow Falls, a camp that helps teens tap into their special…talents. Once you visit, you’ll never forget it—and you’ll never, ever be the same.
From the moment Kylie Galen arrived at Shadow Falls Camp, she’s had one burning question: What am I? Surrounded by vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, fairies and witches, Kylie longs to figure out her own supernatural identity…and what her burgeoning powers mean. And now she’ll need them more than ever, because she’s being haunted by a new spirit who insists that someone Kylie knows—and loves—will die before the end of the summer. If only she only knew who she was supposed to save. And how…
But giving Kylie the most trouble is her aching heart. Gorgeous werewolf Lucas left camp with another girl, but he’s still visiting Kylie in her dreams. And Derek, a sexy half Fae who’s always been there for her when she needed him, is pushing to get more serious—and growing impatient, especially when Lucas returns. Kylie knows she needs to decide between the boys, and it’s tearing her up inside.
Yet romance will have to wait, because something from the dark side of the supernatural world is hiding in Shadow Falls. It’s about to threaten everything she holds dear…and bring her closer to her destiny.

My Thoughts:
This is the second book in the Shadow Falls series, and I really hope it doesn't end after the fourth one that us due out this fall.  I LOVE THIS SERIES!  I have come to discover that I really enjoy paranormal books and the Shadow Falls series has become one of my favorite series.  Awake at Dawn picks back up where Born at Midnight ends with Kylie still trying to figure out who she is while solving the mystery of another ghost.  Kylie starts to develop more powers, but she is still on a quest to figure out what she is.  During a girls outing she is spied on by a rogue vampire, the same one who attacked her in Born at Midnight and this leads to a series of events that give her some answers but also leaves her asking more questions.  While she is finally starting to get used to maybe dating Derek, Lucas shows back up and emotions get tense.  I really like how Kylie has developed a friendship with two girls who normally wouldn't get along, which leads to real world lessons about getting along with people and embracing their differences.

C.C. Hunter continues to pull me into the Shadow Falls world, which is set in one of my favorite places on earth, the Hill Country of Texas.  I love seeing how the different supernaturals interact with each other, especially those who are dating outside of their kind.  I don't want to give away too much about this book, but you will want to make sure you have Taken at Dusk ready to go shortly after finishing Awake at Dawn.
My Rating: 5 stars!!

Review ~ Born at Midnight

Born at Midnight
C.C. Hunter
Released: March 29, 2011
Publisher: St. Martin's press
pages: 398

Summary:

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.
Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.
Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

Review:
I’ve had Born at Midnight on my shelf for a little bit and after exploring C.C. Hunter’s website and reading the short story she wrote as a prequel for the series (it’s free on Amazon), I was HOOKED and HAD to read it.  I have found my next paranormal series/ obsession.  C.C. has created characters that are real and their internal dialog is too funny at times.
Imagine feeling like you never quite fit in.  Then, imagine that within the span of a few months your boyfriend dumps you, your grandmother dies and your parents are getting divorced, welcome to Kylie’s life.  Not only is she having a bit of bad luck, she gets caught at the wrong place at the wrong time and winds up being sent to what she thinks is a camp for “dysfunctional” kids.  Soon she finds out, things aren’t what they seem, and no one knows what Kylie is.

Kylie’s quest is to figure out how to let her guard down and find out where she fits in: Witch, Werewolf, Fairy, Vampire, Shape shifter or something else.   Through making new friends, seeing someone from her past she wasn’t sure she wanted to meet again, and trying to save a Shadow Falls, Kylie learns a little more about herself.  While change can be scary, sometimes it can also be exciting and liberating.  This is the first book in the series and I’m so glad that I already have books 2 & 3!  C.C. Hunter has done a great job creating characters that the reader can connect to and a setting that is after my own heart, the Texas Hill Country!  If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend taking a trip to what I think is like a little piece of heaven on Earth.

If you are looking for your next paranormal book, look no farther, Born at Midnight should be your next pick!

My rating: 5 Stars!
